The Fine Art of FiberKaren Stockwell's scarves will be featured at this intriguing exhibit. Fiber Art is a rather recent term, appearing after WWII, when curators recognized the aesthetic of otherwise utilitarian objects. In the 1950s artists began using fibers to make non-functional pieces of work and in the '60s and '70s an international revolution in fiber art emerged. Fibers can be from plants or animals, made into contemporary or traditional designs.
This exhibit will include natural or synthetic fibers. It may include surface design on fabric, weavings, basketry, handmade or commercial paper, threads or yarns, macrame, crochet, knitting, felting, rug hooking, quilts, lace, and many more techniques in the form of wall art, sculpture, installation, fashion… So many possibilities!.
